Waikanae WTP milestone
BPC’s team delivering the Waikanae Water Treatment Plant for Kāpiti Coast District Council has reached their biggest milestone to date with the successful commissioning of the new clarifier and rapid mix tank.
Senior Project Engineer Jacob Walmsley said the structures were completed on time and the plant is now running in auto mode through the new tanks.
“The next phase of commissioning is to bring the new chemical tank farm online,” Jacob said. “We have built a new bunded area to house four 30,000L chemical tanks. When we’ve erected the steel portal framing and completed the electrical installation, this section can be made live”.
Work is now underway demolishing the old rapid mix tank. “This is a tricky demo with a lot of existing services nearby that we need to support,” Jacob said. “Once it is demolished, we need to complete a 6m deep trench to install a 24m long 800mm OD PE pipe that will connect the new rapid mix tank to the old clarifier. This means the plant will have access to using both clarifiers from our new rapid mix tank.”
