BPC’s expertise in wharf building was shared with attendees at a Permanent International Association of Navigational Congress (PIANC) event in Wellington last week. PIANC brings together experts on technical, economic, environmental, and planning issues pertaining to waterborne transport infrastructure.
BPC Pre-Contracts Manager Alex Normandeau worked with PIANC New Zealand Chair Jono Stewart to organise the event at the new office of BPC’s Southern Region team at Shed 39 on the waterfront.
Cadet Engineer Rhys Winter delivered a presentation on the Matiu Somes Island Wharf Replacement project that BPC delivered for the Department of Conservation last year. The project won a Civil Contractors New Zealand Wellington/Wairarapa award, with the judges praising BPC’s engineering expertise in replacing the historic 116-year-old wharf without compromising the island’s little blue penguin colony or sensitive natural environment.
