Careers made possible: Tiari-Awhina Pepere-Montgomery
Meet Tiari-Awhina, a first-year concrete construction apprentice with our Wellington team. In this role, she’s helping deliver some exciting infrastructure projects across the region.
Tiari-Awhina came on board through the Pukana Internship, a programme that connects Māori jobseekers with opportunities in the Wellington area. What drew her to the role? The variety. “No two days are the same,” she says. “And I love seeing the progress we’re making. At first, I didn’t think I was achieving much—until I looked back and saw how far we’d come as a team.” Her goal is to one day step into a foreperson role.
She’s also passionate about encouraging other young women to explore careers in infrastructure. “It’s not as scary as it seems! Everyone’s really supportive.”
