Ōmokoroa Water Treatment Plant Upgrade & Reservoir

Brian Perry Civil delivered a significant upgrade to the Ōmokoroa Water Treatment Plant for Western Bay of Plenty District Council (Western Bay), helping to future-proof drinking water supply to one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing coastal communities.

Working alongside Western Bay and our design partners, our team upgraded the live bore-fed treatment plant, built a new 3,500m3 reinforced concrete reservoir, extended the treatment building to house UV disinfection and modernised supporting site infrastructure.

The project was completed while keeping the existing plant operational and the community’s water supply uninterrupted. The project was completed seven weeks ahead of schedule, with zero Lost Time Injuries, zero environmental incidents and zero community complaints.

The upgrades that added capacity, treatment quality and resilience to Ōmokoroa’s drinking water included:

A new 3,500m3 reservoir: construction of a post‑tensioned reinforced concrete reservoir providing additional storage and supply resilience for the community.

Treatment Building Extension: extension to the existing plant to house new UV disinfection, a new Motor Control Centre (MCC) room, and space for future treatment processes and additional bores.

Site civil and services upgrades: new stormwater network, buried services, internal roading, fencing and improved access and egress.

Tie-ins & commissioning: careful staging, pre-commissioning and tie-ins to the live network so that drinking water supply continued uninterrupted throughout construction.
