Te Matapihi Wellington Library Strengthening Works

Brian Perry Civil played a key role in the seismic strengthening and redevelopment of Te Matapihi Wellington Library.

53no. 900mm diameter piles were drilled using our Geax EK60 excavator mount piling rig equipped with a custom mast and Kelly bar for the low headroom work. A 16T Sennebogan crane was used to assist with lifting cages where headroom allowed for the additional tower crane piles.

The piling rig was operated from the ground floor slab, which was supported by temporary props in the basement level below. Due to the low headroom, the team installed and spliced five sections of reinforcing cages into each pile.

To minimise environmental impact, a product called metaflo was used to dry the material being excavated from the piles before removal from site.
