Strengthening Te Matapihi Wellington Library
BPC’s team is ahead of schedule delivering seismic strengthening work for the redevelopment of Te Matapihi Wellington Library for client LT McGuinness.
The team has drilled 41 of the project’s 53 piles using our Geax EK60 excavator mount piling rig equipped with the custom mast and Kelly bar for low headroom work. The 900mm diameter piles have an average depth of 18m.
The piling rig is operating from the ground floor slab, which is being supported by hundreds of temporary props in the basement level below. Due to the low headroom, Project Engineer Stephen Goodman says the team is installing and splicing five sections of reinforcing cages into each pile. “They’re doing a great job, delivering ahead of schedule in a very challenging environment.”
