Waikanae milestone
BPC’s tight planning and teamwork ensured the 28 panels forming the perimeter of the new clarifier for the Waikanae Water Treatment Plant were successfully installed ahead of schedule.
Project Engineer Jacob Walmsley says the 24 regular 7T wall panels and four 15T pilaster panels were landed over three days, one day quicker than programmed.
“The panels were laid down so the propping anchor plates could be bolted to the inner face,” Jacob said. “The panels were then transferred into position on the clarifier ring foundation. Once landed on our pre-set shims and stopping blocks, the panels remained on the crane hooks while two superslim props were lifted into position with a 2.5T excavator. Superslim props were attached by a second team member with access from a scissor lift.”
After pouring the 28 stitch joints, high tensile strand will be run through all the panels and the structure will be post tensioned from anchor blocks at each of the pilaster panels.
BPC is delivering the project for Kāpiti Coast District Council.
