Setting records
We’ve just completed our biggest ever concrete pour at Auckland Airport.
As part of Auckland International Airport’s Taxiway Mike project, our team has placed over 1,300m³ of concrete in a single 12-hour night shift. That’s 73 slabs, each 6x6 metres and 500mm thick, laid using our Wirtgen slipform paver and roller screeds. It was a massive effort – and a massive success.
This pour was a true team effort by our pavement teams. Fellow Fletcher Building business Firth provided outstanding support in keeping concrete supply to the pavers, and our planning and logistics teams made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The Taxiway Mike project has seen our team constructing a new taxiway and extending an existing one.
BPC also held the previous record, placing around 1250m3 if concrete in a single shift, back in 2006.
Project Director David McGoey says the pour was the culmination of several months of learning and effort. “The result speaks for itself. It’s a proud moment for the team, and a great example of what’s possible when we work together.”
