Coastal engineering excellence

New Business Manager Lee Griffiths and Senior Project Manager Ian Pringle shared BPC’s coastal engineering knowledge and experience at the 2025 Australasian Coasts & Ports Conference in Adelaide last week.

Lee delivered a case study on the Te Ara Tupua Artificial Reef project, which BPC delivered in Wellington harbour last year. The 56 pyramid shaped structures in the reef were precast in a satellite yard, barged to site, and precisely placed on the seabed to attract fish and enhance the marine habitat. The project was Highly Commended in the recent 2025 Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ) Awards.

The conference, attended by regional industry leaders, researchers, and professionals in the field of ports and coastal engineering, is a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation. This year’s event was focussed on cutting-edge research, best practices, and the latest technologies shaping the future of ports and coastal engineering. Sustainability was a strong theme in case studies and discussion.
