BPC celebrates the 25th anniversary of the construction of the iconic SkyCity Sky Tower
Last week we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the construction of the iconic @SkyCity Sky Tower.
BPC delivered the foundations scope – over 250 perimeter piles, and sixteen 2.0m diameter reinforced concrete grooved piles that support the weight of the 2.5m-thick reinforced concrete foundation pad of the tower. The piles descend 12m into the siltstone.
A feature of the design was for the piles and ring beam to sit independently of the pad, connected only by a closely bound reo cage in the centreline of each pile. This allows the piles to be protected in the event of an earthquake.
