Assembling Kaitoke arch bridge

BPC is well underway assembling the bridge that will replace the seismically compromised Kaitoke Pipe Flume for Wellington Water.

The arch assembly has been completed and Project Engineer Raj Rajamannar says the team is now installing the cross bracing.

Hard rock has made piling challenging. “We’ve poured four piles and we’re due to complete the final two in the first week of July,” Raj says.

An Abseil Access team has been drilling and grouting over 200 anchors on both the northern and southern slopes. They expect to have all anchor works completed by the end of June.

The bridge connects Wellington’s primary water source, Te Awa Kairangi (Hutt River) to the Te Marua Water Treatment Plant north of Upper Hutt.
