Airport milestone

A significant milestone has been reached on the Airfield Expansion project that BPC is delivering on behalf of Auckland Airport.

The first concrete pavement trial kicked off last week using our brand-new Wirtgen SP94i slipform Paver and TCM 180 texture curing machine – the largest paving train available in Australasia, and the first and only one of its kind in New Zealand. It will deliver significant productivity and quality benefits, unlocking the next stage of Auckland Airport’s development programme.

“BPC is working closely with teams from Auckland Airport, Beca, Firth, Winstones, Golden Bay cement, Wirtgen and Leica (Global Survey NZ) to leverage the advantages the new paver offers over traditional construction techniques.” says Project Director Jamie Porter.

In total, the project has approximately 140,000 m2 (14 hectares) of concrete pavement slabs to construct for six remote stands – five with in-ground jet fuel reticulation, other services, and Taxiway Lima. Pavement construction is scheduled to begin next month.
