Fergusson Wharf

BPC expanded New Zealand’s busiest cargo terminal, the Ports of Auckland’s Fergusson Container Terminal, to cater for ongoing cargo volume growth. The new 296 metre wharf provided a much needed third berth for larger container ships.

Our work included boring 284 piles up to 43 metres into the seabed, dredging the harbour around the new wharf, and creating a 55,000-tonne rock revetment. We installed 87 precast concrete panels, poured 10,081m2 of concrete for the deck, and constructed a mooring dolphin on the wharf’s eastern side, with wharf deck furniture to support shore cranes. To maximise productivity, the team developed a careful sequencing method for the piling works using a range of innovative temporary works solutions.

A strong safety culture was critical, with more than 40 subcontractors working on site. No injuries were reported during 18 months of construction.
