Wharf construction

We’re making great progress with the new wharf construction for the Department of Conservation on Matiu Somes Island in Wellington Harbour. Our team recently finished constructing the 17 concrete wharf piles and have now begun building the main wharf deck. The deck is being constructed with precast beams and panels that were built by BPC’s precast team. The precast elements, which weigh up to 17t, are being installed by the 90t crane which is working from our Tuapapa jack-up barge.

The island is home to several hundred breeding pairs of Kororā (Little Blue Penguins), and our team have been taking great care to help protect them, including the use of penguin-proof fencing.
