Water flowing at Kaitoke
A major milestone has been achieved at the Kaitoke Pipe Bridge project with water now being switched over to the new pipe.
The occasion was marked with a dawn karakia ceremony, led by members of local iwi Taranaki Whanui.
The project is being delivered for Wellington Water in the Kaitoke Regional Park. The existing bridge, which delivers half of Wellington’s water supply, is nearing its design life and does not meet current seismic requirements. It connects the capital’s primary water source, Te Awa Kairangi (Hutt River) to the Te Marua Water Treatment Plant in Upper Hutt.
