Supporting students’ initiative
BPC is proud to be supporting the work of Pages to Pacific, a non-profit organisation founded by Kaiapoi High School students to improve educational opportunities for children in the Pacific Islands. We’re transporting boxes of books collected by the students to schools in Vanuatu and Kiribiti, where we have several projects underway.
Chloe McConchie (pictured right) and Tymisha Oldroyd created the charity. “The idea was sparked by a geography lesson on low literacy rates in the Pacific,” Chloe says. “It highlighted the stark contrast between the resources available in Aotearoa New Zealand schools and the reality for many island communities.”
To help bridge this gap the organisation collects books across Christchurch and, with the support of Fletcher Construction South Pacific, ships them from Auckland to Pacific Islands schools. Transco Freight & Logistics are generously providing free transport to Auckland.
Chloe says that beyond providing resources, Pages to Pacific demonstrates the power of community-driven initiatives to create meaningful change. “By connecting New Zealand students with Pacific communities, the project promotes educational equity and empowers young people to pursue their dreams regardless of circumstance.”
