Pipe liner first of its kind in New Zealand
A PipeWorks team has installed a liner that's the first of its kind in New Zealand in the Lower Hutt suburb of Woburn.
Project Manager Nico Klopper says the Insituform CIPP liner is a rolled, resin saturated, coated felt blue tube which is air blown with a string line through damaged pipe. “Once the end reaches its destination, in this case 162m at 225mm thickness, it is then cured by hot water or steam. This then forms a tight fitting jointless and corrosion resistant replacement pipe.”
Nico says service laterals are then restored with a robotic cutting device which is sent down the line. Curing can take up to several hours.
The Pipeworks team travelled down from Auckland to deliver the project for Wellington Water.
