Airport infrastructure excellence
BPC is proud to have delivered the Northern Airfield Expansion project for Auckland Airport, constructing remote stands to service aircraft efficiently and safely. The project won Auckland Airport the Infrastructure Project of the Year Award at the recent New Zealand Airports Association Awards 2025, with the judges highlighting the project’s sustainability and safety record.
BPC’s team delivered over 1.3 million work hours without a lost time injury. Project Director David McGoey says that with a strong reporting culture an environment was built where safety was everyone’s responsibility. “Our subcontractors Higgins, Ross Reid, and TDM were key partners in building this culture,” David says. “The whole team were exceptional, consistently doing the right thing.”
One of the project’s highlights was achieving a record concrete pour, with BPC’s team placing over 1,300m³ of concrete in a single 12-hour night shift. “That’s 73 slabs, each 6x6 metres and 500mm thick, laid using our Wirtgen slipform paver and roller screeds,” David said.
The project finished ahead of the original tender programme. It was a real Fletcher family project, with concrete from Firth, pavement and concrete aggregates from Winstone, stormwater pipes and manholes from Humes, utility ducting from Iplex, and Higgins building the aggregate pavements and asphalt.
