Impressive new jack-up barge being assembled

BPC’s new 400t deck capacity jack-up barge (JUB) is being assembled at Wellington’s Centreport before being put to work on the Seaview Energy Resilience Project.

The new barge’s 38.5m legs are 14.5m longer than the legs on our current barge, Tuapapa.

Seaview Project Manager Lee Griffiths says the extra leg length means the barge can work in deeper water and deeper sediment.

“The new JUB has the same locking units as Tuapapa, so we can join them to create a floating platform 60m x 20m,” Lee says. “It will give us one of the biggest floating barge capacities in New Zealand, and the largest Jackup capacity by some 150t.”
