Brian Perry Civil was awarded a 2004 Transit New Zealand Certificate of Excellence for the James Street Pedestrian Overbridge project.

The contract involved the replacement of an existing timber pedestrian bridge with a new bridge including bored piles, steel support structure, precast concrete ramps with insitu concrete topping, steel handrails and steel bridge.

The work site was located on State Highway 1 - an area of very  high traffic volume requiring a high standard of traffic and health & safety management.

A key aspect of the project was that pedestrian access was required at all times.  To accommodate this, the existing bridge ramps were modified to maintain access to the existing bridge whilst the new ramps were constructed.  Removal of the existing bridge span, and replacement with the new span, was completed in a single overnight operation with the new bridge span open for use the following morning.
