Increasing the capacity for anaerobic digestion at Watercare’s Mangere treatment plant involves the construction of a new sludge digester, Digester 8, within the existing treatment plant site.

The concrete digester tank will have a capacity of approximately 8000m3 of sludge, will be 32m in diameter and 14m deep (over half of which is buried). A sealed steel roof ensures the gas produced from the digestion process is collected for use at the treatment plant. Once built the digester will be commissioned with clean water followed by sludge

Work Update - September 2014

The project is in the last stage with due for completion by early October. Final insulation coating works are being undertaken on the Digester roof. Mechanical and Electrical teams have completed their works and commissioned everything they can in preparation for handover.
