This high profile contract in one of Wellington's most popular strips of beach involved all of the civil works and hard landscaping associated with the formation of a new beach.
Heavy civil engineering works involved the construction of a new headland and associated rock armouring, construction of a new reinforced concrete pier on driven concrete piles and the construction of a submerged rock reef. Also included was a major upgrade of the stormwater system around the Bay diverting existing flows through three new extended stormwater outfalls.
Hard landscaping works included a new kerb and channel and footpath upgrade along with associated street lighting and tree surrounds. Hardwood timber decking to the new pier, the rearrangement of the existing carpark, along with the construction of a new amenity block completed the project.
Particular challenges included the works in the sea and the tidal zone and managing the interaction with the public on this high profile project.
