Brian Perry Civil was the winner of the New Zealand Contractors' Federation (in partnership with the Auckland Regional Council) with the Waitakere Dam Resource Consent Upgrade Project which won the 2009 Environmental Award in Category 2 ($500 to $2m).
The Waitakere Dam is one of the ten water reservoirs supplying bulk water to the Auckland territorial authorities and is located near the north end of the Waitakere ranges. It is approximately 25m high concrete gravity arch and has a capacity of 1.8 million cubic metres. The original cast iron pipework had not been upgraded since the dam was built in 1910. In order to comply with an updated resource consent and dam safety procedures, Brian Perry Civil replaced the pipework inside the dam, added a new pipe from the bottom intake and constructed a concrete valve chamber and installed specialized valves.
